PETALING JAYA: The construction and building materials’ sectors have been given a shot in the arm with the local participation of the civil works for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project being set in stone at 40%. Project owner Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and the main contractor for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC), China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), have reached an agreement for the 10% increase. This will now see local subcontractors and suppliers being appointed for at least 40% of the civil works, excluding tunneling works, estimated to be up to RM10bil for the implementation of the project from 2017 to 2026.
