BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): China s offshore wind power, boosted by policy support and improved technology, has been a fast-growing segment over the past few years, and is expected to continue to do so in the next decade, insiders said.
By the end of 2019, the country s accumulated grid-connected installed capacity reached 5.93 million kilowatts, reaching its target a year ahead of schedule. The figure jumped to 7.5 million kW by September, and is set to continue growing in the coming three decades, said the China Association of Oceanic Engineering.

BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): On Christmas Eve, in a nail-biting finale, the United Kingdom announced that it had negotiated a post-Brexit trade deal with the European Union, which met most of its requirements.
Taking effect on Jan 1, upon the expiry of the UK’s 11-month transition period out of the EU’s institutional framework, it is worth 660 billion pounds a year, the biggest trade deal ever signed by either party.
It gives the UK what the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, had sought, namely, a “Canada plus plus” arrangement, which incorporates the main features of the EU-Canada trade deal of 2016, but without any of the quotas or tariffs imposed on some Canadian goods.

BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): The Chinese mainland has reported its first Covid-19 case caused by the new, significantly more infectious variant of the novel coronavirus that was found in the recent outbreak in the United Kingdom, according to research published on Wednesday (Dec 30).
A report on the research was published online by the China CDC Weekly, an academic platform set up by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The mild case, a 23-year-old female student who recently returned to Shanghai from the UK by airplane, tested positive for the coronavirus on Dec 14, and was sent to a hospital in Shanghai that night for isolation, according to the report.

HONG KONG (China Daily/ANN): Hong Kong’s restaurants, bathhouses and entertainment venues can apply from Tuesday (Dec 29) for financial assistance under the government’s fourth round of anti-pandemic funding. The deadline is Jan 28.
Also on Tuesday, the government announced that the Community Care Fund will start on Jan 4,2021 to accept applications for “One-off Living Subsidy for Low-income Households Not Living in Public Housing and Not Receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance”.
