The faction-ridden Taliban could prove a double-edged sword for Pakistanâs agenda in Afghanistan.
As the Taliban advances towards Kabul, Pakistanâs chief of army staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa is a worried man. A Taliban government in Afghanistan could prove a poisoned chalice for Islamabad, bleeding it with a thousand small cuts.
A quick Taliban victory over the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) is, however, by no means certain. The Taliban controls around 50 per cent of Afghan territory but hasnât been able to capture a single provincial capital in Afghanistanâs 34 provinces.

August 03, 2021
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has asked the religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought to continue to play their role for unity and harmony in the society to foil the conspiracies of the enemy.
Addressing an Ulema Convention in Islamabad on Tuesday, he warned that the enemy always tries to exploit our fault lines to stoke anarchy.
He said the Ulema have an added responsibility to counter the hybrid warfare launched by India against Pakistan. He said we have to take forward Paigham-e-Pakistan code of conduct bearing signatures of about eighteen religious scholars for peace and stability in the country.
