Prime Minister Imran Khan, who arrived in Colombo on a two-day official visit, held wide-ranging talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa, which focused on reinforcing the broad-based and enduring partnership between the two countries.

CPEC, which connects Gwadar Port in Balochistan with China’s Xinjiang Province, is the flagship project of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In a joint statement issued with his Sri Lankan counterpart PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Pakistani Premier said this visit is to strengthen our bilateral relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, especially trading ties. The focus of the bilateral discussion has also fell on enhancing trade ties between the two countries in order for Sri Lanka to benefit from Pakistan’s connectivity up to Central Asia.
