The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday that dictator Xi Jinping has accepted U.S. President Joe Biden’s invitation to attend a virtual climate summit on Thursday, April 22, which Western environmental activists commemorate as Earth Day.

Global Times hailed Biden’s invitation as a “move sending positive signals for the China-U.S. relationship, which is currently facing growing tensions on a number of questions like Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and also a move in line with China’s fundamental position on bilateral ties in seeking cooperation amid divergences.”

China is expected to be the topic that dominates the upcoming talks between US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. Observers see this meeting would be more of a test, rather than a diplomatic accomplishment for Suga, who would put Japan s politics, economy and security at risk if crossing China s red line on Taiwan question with the US.

(CNSNews.com) – Climate envoy John Kerry will become the first senior Biden administration official to visit China, the country whose relationship with the U.S. has been described as the most consequential in the world.
State media outlets in China responded to the prospect of a visit with cautious optimism, characterizing Kerry as a known entity, and a “veteran diplomat who values face-to-face personal diplomacy to reach consensus.”
