County Wexford has won three Ocean Hero Recognition Awards in Ireland s Clean Coasts programme for outstanding volunteer work in helping to protect and keep the coastline clean.
Wexford Sub Aqua Club was honoured for its Long-Term Commitment as a longstanding member of the Clean Coasts initiative; Wexford Estuary Clean Coasts Group received an award in an Against the Odds category for adapting to Covid-19 restrictions while Sean Ferguson was recognised as one of the country s Dedicated Individuals who went above and beyond or strongly promoted the 2 Minute Beach Clean Campaign.
Sean said he is passionate about cleaning the coastline to protect our marine environment, birds and other wildlife.
Christmas came early for Courtown RNLI after two locals each ran individual fundraisers in the run up to Christmas.
Gorey artist Kate Kos used a watercolour image of the RNLI boathouse in Courtown to print beautiful Christmas cards and the proceeds of which will go to Courtown RNLI.
They are on sale now and selling fast at Gala Express Courtown and Redmonds Dry Cleaners Gorey.
A spokesperson for the RNLI gave their sincere thanks to both Kate Kos and Sean Ferguson as both gathered at the boathouse to make presentations. In what has been an unprecedented, strange and difficult time for all charities, knowing that there are amazing people in our community to lessen the burden brings a smile to our faces. There is still time to purchase cards made by the amazingly talented artist Kate Kos, known for her stunning interpretations of our beloved harbour. We want to say thank you to both Sean and Kate as our RNLI Volunteers could not do what they do without people like them .
A big fan of Instagram and beach cleaning, Sean Ferguson from Ballymoney combined his two passions to create a calendar for 2021 that includes images from his many days, early mornings and evenings spent on the beach in 2020.
Although he had no intention of creating a calendar with his work when the year began, the idea came about later from a friend and Sean felt it very fitting to donate the money to the RNLI in Courtown. I love being part of my community in Wexford and especially helping such a great service like the RNLI. I really couldn t believe that my first ever calendar sold out in about an hour.
