Labour candidate Simon Foster has stormed to victory as the West Midlands’ new Police and Crime Commissioner. The solicitor held out over competition from Conservative candidate Jay Singh-Sohal to take over from outgoing commissioner David Jamieson (Lab). Mr Foster won in the second round of results after voters’ second choices were taken into account – winning 301,406 ahead of 259,839 for Mr Singh-Sohal. The result bucks the trend seen elsewhere in the region and country where Conservatives have made gains and Labour have seen losses.
A Tory candidate for a police and crime commissioner seat has been disbarred from taking up the position - even if he wins - because of a 30-year-old drink-driving conviction.
Jonathon Seed was the front runner to become the next Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) role when votes are counted on Monday.
But Tory HQ has now revealed that Mr Seed will not be eligible to take up the position - because he has an old drink-driving conviction.
Mr Seed told the BBC the conviction is more than three decades old and that the party had informed him that he was still eligible to run as a PCC.

Staffordshire s new Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Ben Adams says he is honoured to take on the role after a landslide election result.
This evening it was confirmed that the Conservative candidate would take over from fellow Tory Matthew Ellis, who has stood down after serving in the role since it was first established in 2012.
