Mr Adams said: “I would say thank you to everybody who voted for me. It is a good turnout and I hope it adds credence to the role. It is important.
“I would like to thank Matthew Ellis and his depury, Sue Arnold. They have done this job for eight years and were asked to stay on for another year. I know they have worked hard for the people of Staffordshire and they have left us in a really good position.
“We have a great police force and great fire and rescue service. They are hard-working, professional and caring people. I know everyone really values what they do for us.
PAUL Davies said it was both an honour and a privilege to have been re-elected to represent Preseli Pembrokeshire at the Senedd. Mr Davies had a convincing victory with 12,295 votes. Labour’s Jackie Jones received next largest amount of votes with 10,895. Plaid Cymru increased its Pembrokeshire vote significantly from the last election, with Cris Tomos gaining 6,135 votes. Alan Dennison, for Reform UK got 1,239 votes and Tina Roberts, Liberal Democrats, 952. Mr Davies said that he was committed to representing everyone in Pembrokeshire regardless of whether they voted for him or not. He said he would provide a strong voice for the county in Cardiff Bay and campaign to bring services back to Withybush Hospital and for more investment in the county.
Government minister Lesley Griffiths won the constituency by 1,350 votes, beating Tory candidate Jeremy Kent. It meant Labour was able to avoid a repeat of the 2019 general election, where the Conservatives pulled off a historic victory in the area. Wrexham was again a hotly contested seat in the Welsh Parliament with both Prime Minister Boris Johnson and UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer visiting the town on the campaign trail in the last few weeks. Counting took place at Glyndwr University today (Friday, 7 May) instead of overnight due to the coronavirus pandemic.
ECONOMY minister Ken Skates has kept hold of his Senedd seat in Clwyd South. The Labour cabinet member was able to steer clear of a repeat of the 2019 general election, where the constituency was won by the Conservatives in a shock result. Mr Skates beat Tory candidate Barbara Hughes by 10,448 votes to 7,535. It came despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson making a flying visit to a farm in the area where he once stood to be an MP. Plaid Cymru’s Llyr Gruffydd polled in third with 4,094 votes, followed by Leena Farhat (Liberal Democrats) 730, Jonathon Harrington (Abolish the Welsh Assembly) 599, Jeanette Bassford-Barton (UKIP) 522 and Mandy Jones (Reform UK) 277,
The Conservatives have kept the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire seat with Sam Kurtz winning the vote. Seven candidates fought it out for long-serving Welsh Conservative Angela Burns’ seat after she announced she would be standing down. Mr Kurtz received 11,240 votes around 900 more than Labour’s Riaz Hassan who had 10,304. Mr Kurtz, who at 29 will be one of the younger MS in Cardiff, thanked the people for “putting their trust in me to serve them well for the next five years.” He added it was a “privilege” to take over from Mrs Burns who was “such a dedicated member of the Senedd.”
