McGrath not going to accept pay restoration pay rise

McGrath not going to accept pay restoration pay rise Updated / Tuesday, 23 Feb 2021 13:17 Industry and Employment Correspondent Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath has confirmed that he will not be accepting a pay rise that would be due to him under the pay restoration process in the public service. As the Financial Emergency FEMPI austerity measures are unwound, higher earners in the public service on less than €150,000, including TDs, are due to receive a 2% increase by 1 July at the latest. This would bring them back to 2008 pay levels. However, those who receive the July increase will not be eligible to receive the first 1% pay rise due under the new public service deal Building Momentum , which was formally ratified by the majority of public service unions today.

Political Correspondent The Dáil Public Accounts Committee wants the recruitment process for the next Secretary General at the Department of Health to be stalled.  Members agreed at a meeting this afternoon that they wanted a full review of the remuneration package, which would see the salary to increase by €81,000.  The committee has now set out its position in a letter to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.  Before the meeting, Sinn Féin TD Matt Carty told RTÉ News that he believes the Dáil s financial watchdog will agree to send a letter to the Department of Public Expenditure due to concerns over a proposed increase in the salary from €211,000 to €292,000.
