To much fanfare, Andrew Yang rolled out his mayoral campaign by vowing he’d repurpose his universal basic income plan for the poorest New Yorkers, but two months later, exactly how he intends to pay for that plan remains unclear.
Yang formally made his City Hall run public on Jan. 14 in Morningside Park where he told reporters he’d recast the UBI plan that won him so much attention during his presidential run into a city program that would provide cash to half a million of the city’s poorest residents.
