ENTRANCE: The Royal Bolton Hospital MILLIONS of pounds in damages were paid out last year following serious mistakes in care at Bolton’s NHS trust – with successful claims rocketing by 60 per cent. Data from NHS Resolution revealed 64 clinical negligence claims against Bolton NHS Foundation Trust were successful in 2019-20. Someone can bring a claim against an NHS trust if it is believed they, or a family member, suffered harm or died due to negligent treatment. A total damages bill of £11.1m was paid out in relation to these claims over the year, while further legal costs totalled £538,124. Successful claims against the trust were up 60 per cent compared to the 40 reported in 2018-19, when £16.1m was paid in damages.
