Sindh faces 18-hour electricity loadshedding, PA told - Newspaper

KARACHI: Provincial Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh on Thursday informed the Sindh Assembly that injustice was being done with the people of Sindh as 18-hour electricity loadshedding was being carried out across the province, adding that the provincial government was ready to take control of power distribution companies Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) on its own terms and conditions for betterment of the people. He was responding to a calling-attention notice of Grand Democratic Alliance’s Arif Mustafa Jatoi. Mr Shaikh said that the provincial government was involved only in coal mining under public-private partnership and had nothing to do with electricity production and its transmission.

NEPRA Approves an Increase in Electricity Price The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a hike in electricity tariffs for three state-owned power distribution companies (DISCOs). The increased tariff applies to three power supply companies in Multan, Gujranwala, and Sukkur. If approved by the federal government, it will collect additional revenue of Rs. 916 billion. In a statement issued on Monday, the NEPRA said that the move was aimed at implementing a uniform tariff in the country. LARKANA: The All Pakistan Wapda Hydroele -ctric Workers Union has urged workers to get ready against government’s proposals for privatisation of powerhouses and companies. Addressing a gathering at the powerhouse here on Tuesday, union’s central pre­si­­­­dent Abdul Latif Nizamani said the union was a bitter opponent of privatisation and the steps in this direction would be opposed tooth and nail. The increasing power tariff would not only affect consumers, but also multiply workers’ burden, he said, warning that injustices meted out to workers would not be tolerated. He briefed workers about his meeting with Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) chief executive officer Chaudhari Moham­mad Saleem and his discussion over a host of workers-related issues.

Police said that the woman who had married the man by choice had sought a divorce after a domestic dispute. Despite the husband s efforts, he was unable to convince his wife to change her mind. After an unsuccessful negotiation attempt outside of the court s premises, the man decided to climb a very high-tension electric pole in a bid to threaten his wife.
