Dominguez lauds BOC for job well done amid pandemic challenges

MANILA, Feb 9  Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III has commended the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for performing “extremely well” in 2020 by continuing to raise better-than-expected revenues, ensuring the free flow of goods and redoubling its campaign against smuggling even with logistical restrictions and other difficulties arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the leadership of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Dominguez said the BOC was able to minimize its losses and even surpass its adjusted collection target last year despite the drastic decline in trade volumes and the economic slowdown, by pursuing its modernization initiatives to achieve a more efficient customs administration.

Published February 2, 2021 6:53pm By TED CORDERO, GMA News The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Tuesday it surpassed its collection target in the first month of 2021 despite the lingering effects of the COVID-19 on the overall trading environment. In a statement, the BOC said it collected P47.143 billion in January, surpassing its goal of P44.092 billion for the month by 6.92%. Citing preliminary figures from its Financial Service, the Customs said 11 out of the 17 collection districts surpassed their collection target for January. These are Ports of Manila, NAIA, Batangas, Legazpi, Iloilo, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, and Clark. In 2020, the BOC exceeded its annual revenue collection target by 6.6% or P33.5 billion, collecting P539.7 billion against its P506.2-billion target.
