Sutton Council launch investigation after network complaints

Sutton Council issue statement over SDEN claims Sutton Council have agreed to carry out an independent review of the Sutton Decentralised Energy Network (SDEN) following claims about its financial sustainability. The review comes after months of concerns raised over the quality of the council-owned energy supplier, which residents rely on to receive energy to their homes and businesses. The council said that SDEN was introduced in 2016, to combat the climate emergency and provide low carbon hot water and heating to homes at the New Mill Quarter development in Hackbridge. But over the past twelve months, residents at the New Mill Quarter have reported around twenty network fails which have left hundreds of them without heating and water.

Council and Thames Water responds to hole fiasco in Sutton

Residents on Sutton street left with hole Residents living on a road in Sutton say they have been forgotten about after a hole was dug up for highways maintenance and left without work for months. Neighbours on Collingwood Road were left to look at an eyesore after the hole was dug up on April 20. They said that their complaints about the hazard had fallen on deaf ears and said they were left confused about the repairs. Sutton Council have since issued an apology for the disruption and said that the delay was due to a long-running dispute with Thames Water.

Sutton Council deploys IoT sensors against fly tipping

Topics Sutton Council is deploying sensors to combat fly tipping and a rise in unauthorised access to the borough’s car parks. It is preparing to install the sensors and a remote monitoring solution from IoT Solutions Group to anonymously monitor suspicious car park activity in real time. This will enable it to check on whether any offences are taking place and notifying the police if necessary. It is aiming to prevent illegal activity from occurring and save on the costs of clear-ups after offences have been committed. Sutton has previously invested in over-height vehicle barriers across many car parks to prevent oversized vehicles entering the sites, although in some instances the locks have been illegally opened overnight.
