A retired lieutenant colonel who serves as a volunteer helicopter pilot in Limestone County has reunited with an “old Army buddy” from his training days more than 32 years ago. In 2019, Robert Spuhl of Harvest was invited to join the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office to help fly the OH-58C helicopter that was donated as part of the 1033 program that supplies law enforcement agencies with surplus military equipment. “The FAA tail number is ‘44 Lima Charley.’ I recognized the original registration number during a maintenance records check as ‘an old Army friend’ I flew in flight school at Fort Rucker more than three decades ago,” he said.
