LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - First responders have recovered the body of a pilot from plane wreckage in Liberty County.
Liberty County Coroner Reggie Pierce has identified the pilot as 63-year-old Dr. Mark Allen Lewis of McIntosh County.
County and federal officials were at the scene of the downed aircraft in the area of Carrs Neck Creek, on the eastern end of the county on Monday.
According to Liberty County Emergency Management Director Larry Logan, the tail of the aircraft as well as a wing was spotted by Liberty County Fires Services Chief Brian Darby.

Authorities from Liberty County Fire Services and the Coast Guard are trying to reach an aircraft which was discovered in the waters of East Liberty County Monday Dec. 21, in the afternoon.
According to Liberty County Emergency Management Director, Larry Logan the tail of the aircraft as well as a wing was spotted by Liberty County Fires Services, Chief Brian Darby. It is unknown how many passengers were on board and exactly what time the craft went down. First responders are trying to reach the craft by boat and the Coast Guard has deployed a helicopter.
