Avon to consider electric vehicle pledge

BAE Systems photo The Avon Town Council on Tuesday will consider a resolution to become a GoEV Town, pledging to a plan which includes goals to transition the Avon fleet and transit buses to 100% electric or zero emissions vehicles by 2050. The GoEV Coalition recently invited Avon to become a member of the GoEV City Campaign, which is a joint effort of the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project, the Clean Energy Economy for the Region, the Colorado Public Interest Research Group, Conservation Colorado and the Sierra Club. Avon is part of the 2016 Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community, which aims to achieve greenhouse gas emission reduction targets of 25% by 2025 and 80% by 2050. The town also in 2019 purchased 100% renewable electricity through Holy Cross Energy’s Renewable Energy Purchase Program.

Garfield County looks to further economic goals this year despite energy downturn, COVID-19 impacts

Budget impacts due to the ongoing downturn in the natural gas industry are driving Garfield County’s policy directives for 2021, with an eye toward diversifying the county’s economic base. County commissioners recently adopted their “Directives and Action Plan” for the year, giving weight both to the realities of running a county with fewer revenues and looking to some new areas for economic development potential. The county this year made across-the-board budget cuts of 5%, including eliminating 18 jobs through attrition and cutting programs such as the Sheriff’s Office animal control division and the Youth Conservation Corps outdoor projects summer employment program.

Dec. 31 deadline for $4K EV tax credit RBC | Local nonprofit Clean Energy Economy for the Region is reminding Coloradans Dec. 31 is the last date to qualify for a $4,000 state tax credit. The “Innovative Motor Vehicle” income tax credit on the purchase of a new plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicle will drop to $2,500 in 2021. The credit for leasing an EV will also decrease to $1,500 from the current $2,000. The state tax credit applies to all models, and everyone gets the full $4,000 regardless of their tax situation.
