Superannuation Minister Jane Hume says she hopes organisers of the Women’s March 4 Justice will take the olive branch offered by the prime minister to hold private talks and address concerns about parliamentary culture.
Organisers rejected Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s offer to hold private talks inside parliament – after he made it clear he did not intend to come outside and listen to women himself.
“I think that to not attend a meeting with the prime minister is such an extraordinary lost opportunity I think for the organisers of this march,” she said.
Ms Hume said she was certain Mr Morrison had valid reasons for not meeting the rally attendees outside, “some of them may well be logistical, as well as practical.”
“But I think that the most important thing is the organisers take this opportunity that’s been presented to them and use it to make their issues known and to feel that they’ve been heard,” she said.
