CANTON For some Americans, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than a holiday it s a day of service.
On Monday, the Impact Evangelistic Center Church of God in Christ at 1411 Cherry Ave. NE teamed up with local community advocates to conduct a grocery giveaway.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic detoured most in-person celebrations and gatherings, the Rev. Kenneth Lancaster, host pastor, said the giveaway was in keeping with King s mission, which included advocating for poor Americans of all races. Our church has partnered with the Akron-Canton Food Bank for about eight months, he said. This is something we could do safely. It s more than having a day off. It s a day we can reflect on how far we ve come, and how far we have to go. I m happy we can help keep his dream alive.
