NT Government The Northern Territory Government today announced the nomination of Mr Michael Riches for appointment as the new Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC), following the upcoming retirement of the current ICAC, Mr Kenneth Fleming QC in July 2021. Chief Minister Michael Gunner said in accordance with the Protocol for the Appointment of Statutory Officers under the Northern Territory Integrity Framework, an Advisory Panel was convened to undertake the selection process and to make an independent recommendation for this important appointment. The Advisory Panel comprised the Honourable Trevor Riley QC as former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (as the Advisory Panel Chair), the Solicitor-General of the Northern Territory, Mr Nikolai Christup SC, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, Ms Jodie Ryan.

(ABC News: Dean Faulkner) A correctional services executive and a plasterer have been ordered to stand trial accused of colluding to corrupt the tender and procurement process of an Adelaide prison upgrade. Paul Andrew Robinson and Matthew Laurie Patzel pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court to more than 20 counts of being a public officer who exercised power to secure a benefit. The allegations stem from an investigation by the state s Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC) into the planned $150 million upgrade of Yatala Labour Prison the state s biggest jail in Adelaide s north.

OICAC completes investigation into alleged unsatisfactory conduct by NTG public officers

Office of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption The Office of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (OICAC) has completed an investigation into a Northern Territory Government procurement and has made no findings of improper conduct. The OICAC commenced an investigation into the conduct of public officers in a Northern Territory Government department following allegations that those officers may have engaged in unsatisfactory conduct while undertaking a select tender procurement. The investigation found that there was insufficient evidence of unsatisfactory conduct, but that the public officers had failed to adhere to best practice and that Northern Territory Government procurement guidelines were either not fit for purpose and/or poorly understood by public officers.
