Free State police officer was arrested on Monday after he allegedly shot
someone in the head at a family gathering over the weekend. It
is alleged that the officer discharged the official firearm in Bloemfontein on
8 May, when he was at a family gathering with his girlfriend. The officer
allegedly became unruly [and] he was chased out of the yard by the victim. He
allegedly used his service pistol to shoot the victim once [in] the head,
said Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Ndileka
Cola.

A police sergeant from Bloemfontein in the Free State has been arrested after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head at the weekend, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said.
Ipid spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the officer, who is attached to the Bloemspruit crime prevention unit, allegedly discharged his service firearm during a family gathering with his girlfriend on Saturday.
“The officer allegedly became unruly and was chased out of the yard by the victim. He allegedly used his service pistol to shoot the victim once in the head,” Cola said.

Ipid is investigating a case of attempted murder after the unruly policeman shot someone at a family gathering and went on the run.
A police officer who allegedly fired his service firearm and shot someone in the head at a family gathering was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
IPID national spokesperson Ndileka Cola said that the 46-year-old police officer had been on the run from police after the shooting on 8 May. Police eventually arrested him on the afternoon of Monday 10 May 2021. The SAPS police officer is a sergeant posted at the Bloemspruit Crime Prevention Unit in Bloemfontein.

The SAPS has suspended Warrant Officer Ronnie Doko after he was arrested for the murder of three people in the Eastern Cape, during a land dispute.
The long standing dispute took a deadly turn after the Centane church started building a church hall on a piece of land which was previously borrowed to Doko by a local village headman.
The Police, Prisons and Civil Rights Union said the incident destroys the trust the union has worked so hard to build between the police and civilians.
The SAPS has suspended a Mthatha VIP Protection Unit member after he was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for allegedly murdering three people including his church pastor over a land dispute last week.

CAPE TOWN - A Bloemfontein police officer is facing a charge of attempted murder after he opened fire at a family gathering, leaving one person wounded.
The 46-year-old sergeant was arrested on Monday while the attack happened in the Bloemspruit area over the weekend.
The victim is recovering at a medical facility. The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
