The officers responded to the theft of copper cables last month when they allegedly killed two suspects on the scene.
Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) Ndileka Cola says the men in blue failed to report the incident.
It’s further alleged that when the police left the crime scene, they went to a scrapyard and sold the copper cable.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) arrested four police officers from a station in Carletonville in Gauteng for murder and theft on Thursday.
The officers face two charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice as well as theft of copper.
According to IPID spokesperson, Ndileka Cola, it is alleged that on 11 February 2021 the four officers intercepted copper cables from alleged thieves and shot two dead.
The officers then allegedly left the scene and went to a scrapyard where they sold the cables. They left the two deceased males at the scene and did not report the shooting incident to IPID as required by law, Cola said.
