Grace Dixon never had âbecome valedictorianâ on her to-do list. The 18-year-old recent Sahuarita High School graduate just wanted to do well in her classes.
But the hard work paid off and Dixon finished high school at the top of her class. She graduated May 19.
âIâve always wanted to get good grades and take AP classes but it was never my goal to become valedictorian,â she said two days after graduating. âI just wanted to get good grades so I could get into universities.â

The Centers for Disease Controlâs relaxing of restrictions on masks has launched a national debate on whether itâs too early, too loose or way overdue. The conversation in Green Valley and Sahuarita is no different.
Diane Watch of Sahuarita said she isnât comfortable with the new guidelines announced Thursday.
âIâm not convinced weâre at a point where weâre completely safe,â she said.
Heather Spencer, who stopped to talk outside CVS in Green Valley, said sheâs vaccinated but will continue to wear a mask.

Both Green Valley ZIP codes are at the top of the list when it comes to the percentage of people vaccinated in Pima County, as of April. 27, according to the countyâs dashboard.
About 80% of the 6,294 residents in the 85622 ZIP code, which includes part of Green Valley and west beyond the mines, are fully vaccinated.
In 85614, which includes part of Green Valley and southern parts of Sahuarita, itâs about 72% of the population of 24,294.
