Medway Yacht Club is delighted to be hosting the Wayfarer UK National and European Championships, 5-8 August 2021. Racing will take place on the wide stretches of the tidal River Medway below Gillingham over four days and with great social events planned for the evenings.
The Club is delighted that the event is being supported by Hartley Boats, McNamara Sails, Craftinsure, Shepherd Neame and Wayfarer Wines.
Entry to the Championships is limited to 65 boats. The Club is planning to welcome entries from Denmark, Ireland, France and the Netherlands as well as mainland UK. There is an early bird discount entry fee and a guarantee return of prepaid entry fees if the Championships are cancelled for Covid reasons.

Josh Hall, GSC Event Consultant, who has previously organised two round the world sailing events, is enthused about the reaction to the GSC: For a round the world sailing event to garner this level of entry interest in just two months is astonishing and the level of experience that these enquirers have is exceptional. It proves that there is a large pent-up demand for such an event, which enables sailors to take on this grand adventure with their own yachts and within a sensible budget.

It’s time for another price challenge! It’s always great to discover such a wide variation within a narrow price band by playing with the age and size and then tweaking it with more subjective matters like quality and desirability.
Doing an internet deep dive with a fictitious £80,000 this month has thrown up plenty of choice. There’s a rock-solid Taiwanese space ship, with its vast teak interior and air of indestructibility. There’s a lovely mainstream classic British flybridge 40(ish) footer that would tick a lot of boxes as a manageable family cruiser.
Ellen MacArthur. THE Isle of Wight s Dame Ellen MacArthur smashed the record for the fastest single-handed circumnavigation of the world on this day in 2005. Aged 28, she completed her 27,354-mile odyssey in 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds. With an average speed on the water of 15.9 knots, she beat the previous record set by Frenchman Francis Joyon by more than a day. It was an astounding achievement given that many in sailing had predicted Joyon’s mark, set in just 2004, would last many years. Joyon had taken more than 20 days off the previous record in completing his journey in 72 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds.
Galway Port is Round Britain & Ireland Race Stopover for 2022

Galway Bay Sailing Club in conjunction with The Royal Western Yacht Club (Plymouth) has announced that Galway Port has been selected as a stopover port for The Round Britain and Ireland Race in 2022.
This classic Round Britain and Ireland race which will be entering its 56th year will see over 40 boats competing in various classes over a three week period in May 2022. Starting in Plymouth, The Round Britain and Ireland Race has compulsory stopovers in Galway, Lerwick, and Blyth before finishing back in Plymouth.
