Forever Chemicals Must Be Regulated as a Class

Tuesday, February 2, 2021 To protect the health of people, communities and the environment, the toxic fluorinated “forever chemicals” known as PFAS should not be regulated one by one but as a class, more than a dozen scientists, including this author, argue in an article published today in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters. Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) and the Microbiome

Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) and the Microbiome Recent research is uncovering the link between exposure to semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) and changes in the gut microbiome. Scientists are particularly interested in how these products impact the bacteria in children’s guts, with new studies hinting that certain bacteria may be useful in the bioremediation of the infant digestive tract.
