Few realistic scenarios left to limit global warming to 1 5°C - Sonnenseite - Ökologische Kommunikation mit Franz Alt

Few realistic scenarios left to limit global warming to 1.5°C Of the over 400 climate scenarios assessed in the 1.5°C report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), only around 50 scenarios avoid significantly overshooting 1.5°C. © Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research 2021 | Greenhouse gas missions reduction pathways to achieve net zero. Cutout from fig.1a, Warszawski et al (2021) Of those only around 20 make realistic assumptions on mitigation options, for instance the rate and scale of carbon removal from the atmosphere or extent of tree planting, a new study shows. All 20 scenarios need to pull at least one mitigation lever at “challenging” rather than “reasonable” levels, according to the analysis. Hence the world faces a high degree of risk of overstepping the 1.5°C limit. The realistic window for meeting the 1.5°C target is very rapidly closing.

Human Impact on Earth Is Shrinking an Entire Layer of The Atmosphere, Scientists Warn

Earth s Stratosphere Is Shrinking Because of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Scientists Say

Earth s Stratosphere Is Shrinking Because of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Scientists Say The Weather Channel 1 hr ago Jan Wesner Childs Earth s stratosphere - the layer where commercial airlines cruise and the ozone layer lives - is shrinking because of greenhouse gas emissions, according to a new study. The research, published May 5 in the journal Environmental Research Letters, shows that the stratosphere is nearly a quarter of a mile smaller than it was in 1980. The second layer of our atmosphere, the stratosphere extends from about 6 miles to 30 miles above Earth. It lies on top of the troposphere, which has already been shown to be heating and expanding because of climate change.

Exxon Mobil s Messaging Shifted Blame for Warming to Consumers

Scientific American Exxon Mobil’s Messaging Shifted Blame for Warming to Consumers An analysis of the fossil fuel company’s documents also found it tried to downplay the dangers of climate change Advertisement Exxon Mobil Corp. has used language to systematically shift blame for climate change from fossil fuel companies onto consumers, according to a new paper by Harvard University researchers. The paper, published yesterday in the journal  One Earth, could bolster efforts to hold the oil giant accountable in court for its alleged deception about global warming. This is the first computational assessment of how Exxon Mobil has used language in subtle yet systematic ways to shape the way the public talks about and thinks about climate change, Geoffrey Supran, a research fellow at Harvard and co-author of the paper, said in an interview with E&E News.
