Weekly trash pick-up by Advance Disposal in Hesperia may be delayed several hours due to COVID-19-related staffing shortages at the company, city officials say.
Hesperia city staff took to Facebook on Friday to announce the possible delays. The city contracts for waste management with Advance Disposal, which is headquartered on Mesa Street and also services some unincorporated areas.
On Tuesday, spokeswoman Luisa Quintero told the Daily Press the company has had a few residential routes that have had their cans serviced at unusual times due to COVID-19-related callouts among employees.
Quintero said some of the delays have been the result of precautionary measures taken by the company to protect the health and safety of employees and the public during the pandemic.
Perfluorononanoic acid, or PFNA, the chemical that led to a do not drink order on tap water in the Chautauqua County Village of Mayville late last week, was detected more than a year ago in regular sampling of two of the three wells that serve the village, county and state officials said. This is not a new change to the water, Mayville Mayor Ken Shearer said during an online forum Friday. This is a little different from some other emergencies. Nothing spilled into our water program yesterday. This is a new test, something that has not been tested for before.
