Petition to save Maryport s wonderful exotic birds after nuisance complaints

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to “save” the peacocks that can often be seen roaming around Maryport after some residents have complained to the council. Emma Kelt of Forever Friends Small Animal Rescue Sanctuary launched a petition to Allerdale Borough Council to stop keep the peacocks in Maryport after some residents complained about them. The petition currently sits at 872 signatures on Change.org. The mission statement reads: “A few people have complained but the majority love and support these wonderful birds. They have made Maryport their home and are a pleasure to see.” Michael Mitchell who ran the Ellen Bank Hotel in Maryport is believed to have introduced them to the town but they can now be seen around the Ewanrigg estate.

Dangerous algae blooms caused by high temperatures should be avoided

As the temperatures remain high throughout San Joaquin County and the rest of California, health officials urge caution to those who plan on being near any water such as rivers, lakes and ponds. Blue-green algae (BGA) or cyanobacteria is produced in warm temperatures and can be dangerous; any contact should be avoided by both humans and animals.  “To avoid illness, exercise caution and observe signage that warns visitors to avoid active algae blooms,” San Joaquin County Public Health Officer Dr. Maggie Park said in a news release Tuesday.  Even though this is not something new to the county, San Joaquin County Public Health and Environmental Health officials and the state Regional Water Quality Control Board are urging the public to avoid exposure that can cause health risks.
