Swimming advisory lifted for Anderson Beach in Newport News Storyblocks By: Web Staff and last updated 2021-05-27 15:39:06-04 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Peninsula Health District issued a swimming advisory Wednesday for Anderson Beach in the City of Newport News. Anderson Beach is located at 16 th Street and Oak Avenue. Samples collected on Tuesday showed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded the state water quality standard. On Thursday officials said the advisory was lifted after re-sampling showed safe levels. Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria routinely during the summer swimming season, using indicator organisms such as enterococci, the indicator of choice for estuarine and marine waters.
