+ January 09, 2021 BARANGAYS can resume disposing of their garbage in the transfer station in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City before the end of this month.
Department of Public Services (DPS) head John Jigo Dacua said a P405 million budget had been allocated for garbage collection in 2021.
He said the contract between the City Government and the operator of the transfer station ended in the second week of December 2020 as the budget intended for it had all been utilized.
Dacua’s office is now working on the renewal of the contract.
The termination had inconvenienced barangays and the public, prompting Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo to file a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman against Dacua and Mayor Edgardo Labella over the non-collection of garbage.

SunStar File January 08, 2021 IT IS the job of the barangays to collect their garbage, and filing a complaint over this concern is a “cheap shot.”
This is what Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella had to say after Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo filed a complaint against him and Department of Public Services (DPS) head John Jigo Dacua over the problem of uncollected garbage in Inayawan.
Labella said it is the responsibility of the village chiefs to act on the obligations mandated under the Section 10 of the Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, while the City Government will only provide assistance.
As the country celebrates the National Zero Waste Month, environment groups called on the government and the public to recognize this period as a crucial time to heighten environmental awareness and action among Filipinos.
