As the Corporate Environmental Lawyer Blog celebrates Earth Day,
we turn to the important topic of drinking water. Drinking water,
like the air we breathe, is an environmental issue that everyone
interacts with on a daily basis. But, much like air pollution,
contamination of drinking water often has the largest impact on
poor communities and communities of color.

In February, Beverly Wright linked the legacy of slavery and the Jim Crow era with energy development. In March, President Joe Biden appointed Wright to his White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council.
Wright, the founder of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, is joined on the council by Jade Begay of the Indigenous Environmental Network, who co-wrote a 2018 op-ed in EcoWatch contending that climate change is “colonialism” and “cultural genocide.”

Appeals court allows ban on chemicals in toys to stand for now By Rita R. Robison on March 12, 2021 at 10:45 PM
A federal appeals court has left in place the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s ban on harmful phthalate chemicals from plastic used in children’s toys and childcare items.
The court rejected most of the arguments made by the chemical industry opposing the ban. However, it also found flaws in the agency’s rulemaking process.
The court gave the agency an opportunity to fix the errors before the court considers the remaining issues it has with the ban.
