DEC joins the nation in celebrating the accomplishments of women throughout the month of March during Women s History Month. Whether through internal initiatives designed to advance professional growth for staff or opportunities for women across New York to sharpen outdoor recreation skills and knowledge, DEC is highlighting some of the remarkable women who make the agency s work possible. A Testimony in Determination - DEC s Women s Initiative In 2018, DEC launched the Women s Professional Development Initiative in response to women looking for opportunities for professional growth and career development. The Initiative is led by a Steering Committee, which focuses on cultivating an empowering environment for all women at DEC.

Person killed in Bellmont snowmobile crash

BELLMONT — State police confirmed Friday morning that a snowmobile crash in Bellmont resulted in one fatality. State police are currently investigating the fatal snowmobile collision on Wolf Pond Road, according to Trooper Jennifer Fleishman, public information officer for state police Troop B. According to Fleishman, the state police are in the initial stages of their investigation. “We are only confirming at this point that we are investigating a snowmobile collision which crash that resulted in one fatality on Wolf Pond Road,” Fleishman said. In addition to state police, law enforcement units from the state Department of Environmental Conservation Police and State Park Police also responded to the scene.

Herkimer County DEC Officer Named Wildlife Officer of the Year The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is celebrating one of its officers from Herkimer County, who was recently named Wildlife Officer of the Year by an international group. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced Wednesday that Shikar-Safari Club International had named Environmental Conservation Police Officer Darryl Lucas its Wildlife Officer of the Year. On behalf of DEC, I congratulate ECO Lucas for receiving this prestigious award, Commissioner Seggos said in a press release.  ECO Lucas exemplifies the tireless efforts DEC s law enforcement officers exhibit each day to enforce New York s environmental laws and ensure New York s environment and natural resources are protected for generations to come.
