Dong Won 701 finally towed from Timaru for burial at sea

On Wednesday, an EPA spokesperson said the Dong Won 701 had now been certified for dumping. “Following a review of consent conditions, the Environmental Protection Authority has certified the Dong Won has been cleaned and prepared in accordance with the requirements of its conditions.” PrimePort’s Te Maru tug boat is towing the vessel to the dumping site. The Authority could not confirm when the scuttling would happen, referring further questions to the vessel s owner DW New Zealand (DWNZ). A DWNZ spokeswoman said the company had no comment to make on the matter. John Bisset/Stuff
