The private intelligence firm has been embroilled in several scandals in the past decade, ranging from a 2017 report by The New Yorker that Black Cube helped Harvey Weinstein to track women who made allegations against him, to allegations by the Israeli television show Uvda that the firm spied on then-Finance Minister Yair Lapid.
Black Cube said that company is in turn owned by Oryx Shipping of Piraeus, Greece, which is owned by the Syrian Malah family. Black Cube found that the family owns a number of shell companies registered in the Marshall Islands, Panama and Britain, all of which are listed at the same corporate address in Piraeus, the ministry said. Black Cube said that Oryx Shipping’s fleet of ships is insured by Islamic P&I Club, which the Environment Ministry said is among the few entities that also insure Iranian ships.

Oil Spill Caused By Israeli Attacks On Iranian Oil Bound for Syria
The
Wall Street Journalreports today:
Israel has targeted at least a dozen vessels bound for Syria and mostly carrying Iranian oil out of concern that petroleum profits are funding extremism in the Middle East, U.S. and regional officials say, in a new front in the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Since late 2019, Israel has used weaponry including water mines to strike Iranian vessels or those carrying Iranian cargo as they navigate toward Syria in the Red Sea and in other areas of the region. Iran has continued its oil trade with Syria, shipping millions of barrels and contravening U.S. sanctions against Iran and international sanctions against Syria.

Workers clean up chunks of tar that washed up on Dado Beach in Haifa, March 12, 2021. (Fred Arzoine/Environmental Protection Ministry)
Stormy weather brought fresh tar deposits on Friday to several beaches following a major oil spill last month that polluted much of Israel’s Mediterranean coastline.
The Environmental Protection Ministry said large chunks of tar were found on the Neve Yam Beach in northern Israel. Tar was also detected on several other beaches in the north.
Local authorities were cleaning the beaches and the ministry said it would continue to track the pollution as the storm weakens.
The announcement came days after more beaches were allowed to open following intensive cleaning efforts in the wake of the spill and a ban on selling fish caught in the Mediterranean Sea was lifted.
