Summary
The Government of Ontario recently introduced legislation that
proposes to combine an existing cluster of five land and
environmental tribunals into a single entity called the Ontario
Land Tribunal (OLT). The OLT will merge the Local Planning Appeal
Tribunal (LPAT), the Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT), the
Conservation Review Board, the Mining and Lands Tribunal, and the
Board of Negotiation.

Australian mining giants Rio Tinto and BHPâs plan to build an enormous new copper mine in Arizona has faced a setback after the United States government reversed a decision to allow a necessary land swap.
On Tuesday morning, the US Forest Service rescinded its publication of an environmental impact study that cleared the way for the transfer of a 980-hectare parcel of land at Oak Flat, Arizona, to the minersâ Resolution Copper joint venture.

Four Central Queensland waste companies were “thrown on the scrap heap” by the Queensland Government after each being fined more than $32,000 and ordered to cease operations.
Department of Environment and Science DES inspectors conducted a statewide blitz of waste operators over three months, culminating in more than $100,000 in infringement notices being issued.
A DES spokeswoman said compliance officers visited a number of Central Queensland waste companies.
“The department issued four direction notices (which require activities to immediately cease) and four penalty infringement notices – totalling $32,028,” the spokeswoman said.
The names of the businesses could not be provided, the spokeswoman said, as they had 28 days to appeal the infringement notices.
