POTSDAM Potsdam Village Mayor Reinhold J. Tischler announced today (Monday, May 3) that the village will begin the Garner Park Renovation Project this month.
Garner Park is located at the west end of Raymond Street on the Raquette River.
Dedicated to the late Ruth F. Garner, a long-time village trustee and mayor, the park was initially developed in the late 1980’s and is ready for a make-over, said a press release from the village.
“The renovation of Garner Park is the first step in the Village’s development of the Downtown Riverwalk Trail that will provide unparalleled access to Potsdam’s downtown waterfront,” said Tischler.

In celebration of Arbor Day, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced that grants totaling $1.18 million have been awarded to communities across the state to inventory, plant, and maintain public trees. The grants are part of the second phase of grants through DEC s Division of Lands and Forests Urban and Community Forestry Program, which works to increase public awareness of the importance of trees and help communities develop and implement comprehensive tree management plans to create healthy forests while enhancing quality of life.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $6.7 million in relief aid is being distributed starting today to New York s seafood, marine commercial, and for-hire fishing industries after excessive business losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New York State will distribute an additional $5.7 million in the coming months, for a total of $12.4 million, through the Marine Fisheries Relief Program, which administers federal funding provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
