75 Total Rail Cars Added to Reefs in 2020

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the final deployment of rail cars to the state s artificial reef network for 2020 which included the addition of seven rail cars to the Shinnecock Artificial Reef and four rail cars to the Moriches Reef. This final deployment of 2020 brings the total number of rail cars added to reefs in New York to 75 for the year. Rail cars were donated by Wells Fargo Rail Corporation during the third year of New York s historic expansion of artificial reefs.
SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. â When the clock struck midnight and 2020 began last January, the New Year kicked off with people making goals and having high hopes for the year ahead.
However, that all changed on March 7, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the first two positive Novel Coronavirus cases in Saratoga County. From that day on, cases throughout the state and the Capital Region continued to rise.
With the spike in cases, the governor decided to put the state on âpauseâ, which meant many businesses and restaurants had to close to the public.

Restaurants had to pivot and change their game plan to allow for take-out only, while other businesses struggled too much to reopen.

The Cassadaga Lakes Nature Park will soon be improved thanks to a $40,000 New York state grant awarded to the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy.
CASSADAGA The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy has been awarded a $40,000 New York state grant for improvements to its Cassadaga Lakes Nature Park. The park, located on Route 60 just outside of Cassadaga, encompasses 77 acres of forest and wetlands at the head of the Cassadaga Lakes, including 26 acres of shoreland wetlands and 1,100 feet of natural shoreline.
“We thank State Sen. George Borrello, Assemblyman Andy Goodell and Gov. Cuomo for their support of this project and the New York State Conservation Partnership Program during this challenging time,” said John Jablonski, CWC executive director. “The CWC has registered over 1,300 persons using its preserves over the last nine months. We anticipate that this site will become one of area’s most popular walking destinations.”
