Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett is forecasting an increase of over 100 per cent in stopover visitor arrivals this year over the previous year, which was severely affected by COVID-19. Madam Speaker, the general outlook for the upcoming fiscal year is quite positive as we expect to realise growth of 122 per cent on earnings and 236 per cent in visitor arrivals. Of this number, we hope to welcome 1.043 million stopover visitors, which is a 117 per cent increase over last year’s stopover numbers, Bartlett stated during his sectoral presentation last week.
He said the first three months of 2021 were positive, revealing that some 40,055 visitors were welcomed in January, 40,076 in February, and over 69,040 in March.
Wyndham New Kingston – 300 rooms
Princess Hotels, Negril – 2,000 rooms, Phase 1 with 1,000 rooms
Hotel Grand-A-View, Montego Bay – 60 rooms
Terra Nova Mixed-Use Development, St Andrew – 30 rooms
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, St James – 1,700 rooms
“In total, that amounts to well over 4,800 additional rooms. What a vote of confidence in Jamaica, madam speaker,” Bartlett remarked during his presentation.
He said Harmonisation Group Limited is set to continue work on the Harmony Cove tourism project in Trelawny during the 2021-2022 fiscal year. The development is to include several luxury hotels, world-class golf courses, a luxury spa, marina facilities, commercial developments, private residencies and other amenities, and is expected to cost some US$7.5 billion.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett is targeting a total of 30,000 tourism workers to be inoculated over the ongoing five-day Government s COVID-19 vaccination blitz which is scheduled to end on Tuesday. My ambition is to have just about 30,000 tourism workers done over the five days; that is my ambition, said Bartlett.
He was speaking at the Montego Bay Convention Centre during the vaccination blitz in St James on Saturday.
He noted that as a result of up to 75 per cent weekend occupancy at some hotels, several ground transportation operators were understandably absent from Saturday s exercise.
