THE TAOISEACH WILL make a “comprehensive statement” next week on travel, aviation, entertainment, sport and mandatory hotel quarantine as part of the next phase of reopening for June and July.
Micheál Martin told his parliamentary party meeting that there is a necessity to restore travel and aviation, stating that he is due to meet with Aer Lingus tomorrow to discuss the announcement that the airline is due to lay off staff and permanently close its cabin crew base in Shannon.

Ireland could lose out on â¬1 billion ($1.2 billion) if it doesn t open its borders to tourists from the USA and other countries this year, according to a tourism advisory group.Â
The Tourism Recovery Oversight Group has told Tourism Minister Catherine Martin that opening up Ireland s borders to international tourists could generate â¬1 billion in revenue and create an additional 50,000 jobs.Â
The group told Martin that restriction-free travel between Ireland and the United Kingdom should resume by July and called for fully vaccinated American tourists to be allowed to visit later in the summer.Â

FINANCE MINISTER PASHCAL Donohoe has said that an alternative to the government’s Stay and Spend Scheme is not being examined at present by his department.
Last October, the government launched the Stay to Spend scheme, which allowed taxpayers claim a maximum of €125 back in tax credits on their spending in the hospitality sector until 30 April 2021.
