Cummins defends new Barbados tourism slogan

(BTMI) revealed the slogan as part of a rebranding and marketing strategy to present a refreshed image of Barbados as a destination with a wide range of offerings to the visitor, during a virtual ceremony to relaunch Barbados’ tourism product. Features such as adventure, flavour, personality and legacy were highlighted as areas that Barbados was “big on” and marketing manager at the BTMI, Tenisha Holder, said the intention was to showcase a lot more of what Barbados had to offer than what was customarily highlighted.

Minister welcomes US downgrade of Barbados’ COVID severity Article by May 15, 2021 Stressing the need for a safe reopening of the island’s tourism, Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins on Friday welcomed the news that the US government’s disease watchdog is expected to downgrade its COVID-19 level warning for travel to Barbados. The announcement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) comes six weeks after the foreign affairs arm of the US Government, the US State Department, listed Barbados as “Level 4: Very High level of COVID-19” and warned against travel here. The move drew the ire of Barbadian officials including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which said the island did not deserve that level of warning.

BTMI relaunches tourism brand

The event witnessed by partners from all sectors of Barbados’ tourism industry, representatives of related Government ministries and private sector agencies, was also followed by an international audience including several people involved in the travel trade. They were given a detailed presentation on plans to make a strong re-entry into the global tourism market following the decimation of the tourism industry worldwide by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins said as Barbados prepared to welcome visitors again, the emphasis would be on safe reopening and she encouraged Barbadians, particularly those working in the tourism sector, to get vaccinated. Severance protest: ex-hotel workers agitate for payment

May 12, 2021 Former employees of the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa and the Hilton Barbados Resort are once again protesting broken promises from their ex-employers regarding the payment of severance, Barbados TODAY has learned. And the two groups are to join forces in protest outside the Hilton’s Needham’s Point property as early as Wednesday, a spokesperson said. The Accra workers, who were laid off since last April near the start of the ongoing pandemic received up to 70 per cent of their outstanding monies after days of a ‘wildcat’ protest at the end of the year. But they are contending that a promise from the Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins to facilitate payment of the remaining 30 per cent, as well as payment in lieu of notice by March 30 is yet to be fulfilled.
