Gigantic, looming question mark hanging over summer tourism season in Windsor-Essex, say operators

  WINDSOR, ONT. As the stay-at-home order in Ontario extends another two weeks to at least the beginning of June, the prospect of salvaging a summer tourism season in Windsor-Essex is daunting but doable, according to tourism industry insiders. “We hope for better days ahead, but you have to plan for those better days ahead so those days ahead are more hopeful,” says Gordon Orr, the CEO of Tourism Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island. He says the tourism body has been talking to industry stakeholders about how to achieve some of its summer programming. Orr says plans are in place, but it’s all on hold until restrictions are loosened.

Article content WINDSOR An umbrella group for auto parts makers, one of Southwestern Ontario’s largest employers, is reaching out to the White House amid concerns about a “vaccination gap” developing between the U.S. and Canada that could hurt cross-border trade. The move by the Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA) is the latest appeal by some Canadians, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford, to U.S. authorities to help ease a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines on this side of the border that’s not expected to get better until late February or March.
