OCEAN PINES, Md. – A three quarter scale of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. is making an appearance in Ocean Pines. “We’re very, very fortunate because the wall generally does not travel in the state of Maryland, since we have such easy access to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial,” said President of the Worcester County Memorial Foundation Marie Gilmore.
It’s called the Wall That Heals, and organizers say they hope veterans and their friends and family will come visit. “That gives us an incredible opportunity to honor all of the hometown heroes from all of the counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware,” said Gilmore.

How to honor a veteran s memory in Wellsville s Field of Flags
Each flag in the Field of Flags will have a card with the name of the deceased service member and branch of service

WELLSVILLE Each year, Jones Memorial joins with the Wellsville American Legion Post 702 and Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion and the Legion Riders to transform the front lawn at the hospital into a Field of Flags.
What began eight years ago as a way to honor the memory of veterans who have died, the field has become a tradition and remains in place from Armed Forces Day (May 15) through Memorial Day (May 31).

Thousands of names – 58,000 of them, in fact – listed on dozens of black panels, stretching the length of a football field, all known or assumed casualties of the Vietnam conflict (the United States never declared it a war).
It is called “The Wall that Heals,” a ¾ replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial that sets in Washington D.C. and travels to cities across the nation every year. It arrived in New Bern as the first stop of its 2021 tour, escorted by 450 motorcycles to Lawson Creek Park.
New Brown, a Pennsylvania native who relocated to Craven County 15 years ago, can still remember the young men in Valley Forge Military Hospital, the ones who returned from Vietnam crippled and maimed, the ones who, despite their injuries, would make a point of showing off for her in their wheelchairs.
The memory of those young men has risen again in Brown’s mind this week. As one of the 250 citizens who volunteered to serve at the The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall being displayed at Lawson Creek Park through Sunday, Brown lent her time and energy to help set up the “The Wall That Heals” when it arrived in town on April 7.
