Rochester church builds 200-ft food wall for charity

Created: April 24, 2021 05:27 PM (ABC 6 News) - Evangel United Methodist Church in northwest Rochester spent the day collecting enough food donations to build a 200-foot wall of food for the Salvation Army. They called the event Feed the Need. The goal was to get the Salvation Army stocked for the summer. It was drive-through style event. There was a constant line of cars that rolled through, dropping off bags of non-perishable foods,  We took a concept that we ve used in our church building over the last couple years, with an inside food wall, and we thought whether than just do it in our church, let s take it outside and invite the whole community and build a two-hundred-foot food wall, Jim Klepper, the director of education and worship at Evangel United Methodist Church, said.

Jim Klepper, education and worship director at the church, said the food wall started as a friendly rivalry between Sunday school classes, who could donate the most food. That turned into a community-wide event. The church is hoping to build a 200-foot food wall. Members of the community are encouraged to drop off food at the front or stay for the festivities. Live music will be performed with food trucks, mascots and Rochester Mayor Kim Norton in attendance.
