Sir Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust, insisted that the UK coronavirus vaccine rollout has so far been very successful. While speaking to Nick Robinson on BBC s Today Programme, he claimed the UK was heading towards population immunity . He added that the rise of potentially more dangerous Covid variants has forced the UK scientific community to consider having new vaccines to fight against them in the future.

French fishermen have stated they will not back down in the dispute over access to UK waters. The Channel Islands have become a focus of tensions between the UK and France over fishing rights. Fishermen across the Channel have expressed concern about the new post-Brexit fishing agreements with some going as far as to threaten to prevent Jersey licenced boats landing their catches.
Video footage from the debate shows the Commission President’s chair left empty while her health chief, Stella Kriakides, was left to watch on.
Continuing his address, Mr Madison said the bloc needed to address the reasons why its vaccine scheme had fallen behind Britain’s.
“The EU has often wanted to see itself as a powerful federation compare to other world powers,” he added.

Fishing issues during negotiations over a post-Brexit trade deal threatened to trigger a collapse in talks altogether as the war of words became increasingly bitter. But a new row has erupted around countries not meeting the EU s standards who then have to purify their catch domestically before exporting, a process which adds significant costs and delays. The UK Government has hit back, arguing the move from the EU contradicts previous assurances that the temporary measure would end in April.
