Quantum Dot Technology In the Display Industry

Quantum Dot Technology In the Display Industry Interview conducted by Stuart MilneApr 25 2017 Samuel Halim, CEO and founder of Avantama AG, talks to AZoNano about the advances in quantum dot technology for the display industry. Why has the introduction of quantum dot enhanced TV s resulted in higher definition? Quantum dots create perfect white color in an LCDs based on a blue backlight. The red, green and blue light out of a quantum dot enhanced TV is well defined. By using quantum dots one gets rid of all the “in-between-colors”. By generating these pure colors a much wider color gamut as well as enhanced energy efficiency of an LCD TV is achieved.

New Study: Scientists Makes Earth s Digital Twin to Project Climate Event

Mar 01, 2021 11:09 AM EST Computer scientists at ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich) are trying to create a detailed digital twin of our Big Blue Marble in a kind of pixelated cloning experiment intended to serve as a model of experiment for Earth s climatic changes. According to recent study in Nature Computational Science, the purpose here is for this replica planet to be used as a sounding board to simulate and project out the future of Earth environmental issues before they happen. This safeguard data could assist scientists and policymakers by giving them a more exact alert to forecast hazardous changes in climate and their harmful effects.

Examining the Limits of Energy Return on Investment

The energy transition isn’t just sounding the death knell for fossil fuels. According to some experts, it has also revealed flaws in an idea that has bugged some academics for decades: As we move to less energy-dense fuels, could we end up without enough surplus for society? At the heart of this debate is one of the most important physical metrics you’ve never heard of: energy return on investment, or EROI.  Devised in the 1980s by systems ecologist Charles A.S. Hall and others, the basic principle behind EROI,  also called energy returned on energy invested, is simple: A source of energy is only useful if you can get more energy out of it than what you put in.

Phobos and Deimos May Have Originated From a Larger Shattered Moon

According to a new study, the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, may have originated from a much larger moon that orbited the Red Planet billions of years ago. There have been several theories over the years as to where the moons originated from. One popular hypothesis was that they were originally asteroids (because of the large amount of craters on their surfaces) that got caught by Mars’ gravitational pull. However, many questions arose over that theory because if they really were asteroids, they wouldn’t have an almost-circular orbit around the equator of the planet. Another well-known hypothesis was that the moons may have been formed from a disk consisting of rocks and dust that could have orbited Mars when it was a very young planet. But again, there are more questions than answers regarding that idea as well, such as if there was a disk around Mars, one large moon instead of two smaller ones would make much more sense. Furthermore, if the disk was caused by a large c
