Swiss Market Ends On Strong Note BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) - The Switzerland stock market ended on a high note on Monday, in line with the trend seen across markets in Europe and Asia, as positive updates on vaccine rollout, earnings hopes and expectations about U.S. stimulus rendered the mood bullish. The benchmark SMI ended stronger by 149.16 points or 1.41% at 10,740.22, slightly off the day s high of 10,751.66. Sika, the biggest gainer in the SMI, climbed 3.63%. Partners Group, Nestle and Zurich Insurance Group gained 2.1 to 2.6%. Alcon, Givaudan, Swiss Re, Roche Holding, UBS Group, Geberit, LafargeHolcim, ABB and Swiss Life Holding gained 1.3 to 1.7%, while Swatch Group ended with a gain of about 1%.

Swiss Market Ends Modestly Higher Investors also looked ahead to the Federal Reserve s policy statement and views on economic outlook. The benchmark SMI ended with a gain of 38.45 points or 0.35% at 10,964.05 after scaling a low of 10,919.91 and a high of 11,013.81. UBS Group shares gained nearly 2.5% after the bank reported a surge in quarterly net profit and said it plans to buy back as much as 4 billion francs ($4.5 billion) of shares over the next three years. Zurich Insurance Group, Partners Group and Nestle moved up 1.3 to 1.7%. Givaudan gained 1.3% and Swisscom climbed 1.2%, while Richemont and Swatch Group both ended higher by about 1%. Swiss Life Holding, LafargeHolcim, ABB and Roche Holding also closed notably higher.

Swiss Market Fails To Hold Gains, Ends Slightly Weak BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) - Despite spending much of the day s session in positive territory, the Switzerland stock market ended slightly lower on Monday due to some brisk selling at some key counters in the closing minutes. Worries about growth due to rising coronavirus cases, likely delay in vaccine supplies, and tighter lockdown restrictions in many places across the U.S. and Europe rendered the mood a bit cautious. The benchmark SMI ended down 5.11 points or 0.05% at 10,925.70. The index, which rose to 11,014.28 in the final hour, swiftly slipped into the red to 10,918.56. Richemont shed about 3%. LafargeHolcim, Zurich Insurance Group, Swiss Life Holding, UBS Group, Swatch Group, Swiss Re and Credit Suisse lost 1.4 to 2.3%.
