The integrated air display of Surya Kiran and Sarang of Indian Air Force (IAF) will be the highlight of the 13th Aero India show, which starts on February 3, at Yelahanka air force base. The event is the first global air show in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The combination of Surya Kiran’s BAE Hawk Mk 132 and Sarang’s Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv will be seen for the first time. This edition is expected to see reduced participation in both air display and static display in comparison with earlier editions.
This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the air show, Aero India 2021 would be a hybrid show, which means delegates would be present either physically or virtually. According to organisers, the 2021 edition will be held on an indigenously developed virtual exhibition platform on a hybrid model. A negative Covid-19 (RT-PCR) test has been made mandatory for those attending the 13th biennial Aero India-2021 show at the Indian Air Force Station at Yelahanka here from February 3 to February 5. The test report has to be taken 72 hours prior to the show, organisers said. In view of COVID-19, to control the crowd at the exhibition areas, only 15,000 people would be allowed and in the Air Display Visual Area. Isolation centres have also been set up.

BENGALURU: In what will be a complicated flight envelope to plan and execute, two of Indian Air Force’s (IAF) elite aerobatic squads the Surya Kiran, flying the fixed-wing Hawks and Sarang, flying the rotary-wing ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) will put up an integrated show for the first time this Aero India.
“So far, the two teams have only performed individually and this is the first time ever that there will be an integrated display by both of them,” air commodore Shailender Sood, air officer commanding (AOC), Air Force Station Yelahanka, said on Friday.
