Hurricane Harbor Splashtown shut down following a chemical leak affecting over 60 attendees, officials say By Matthew Seedorff and Ahmed Sharma Published  Details are limited as it s an active situation, so It s unclear what caused the leak, as of this writing. However, officials with the Spring Fire Department as well as Harris County responded to the incident at Hurricane Harbor Splashtown on I-45.  During a press conference with several Harris County officials, a total of 26 people were hospitalized and 39 refused to be taken to the hospital after they went through the decontamination process.  Some attendees were experiencing minor skin irritation and inhalation irritation, authorities said, but are working to look into the chemicals involved.

The local fire department said that 26 people were transported to local hospitals and that 39 refused ambulance transport after a HAZMAT unit put people through a decontamination process. Roughly 4,000 people were at the park during the time of the incident.

Twenty-nine people were taken to local hospitals following the incident at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office tweeted. Thirty-nine others declined to be taken to a hospital after undergoing decontamination procedures. Some of those who became sick were children, including a 3-year-old who was hospitalized in stable condition. The chemicals involved included hypochlorite solution and 35% sulfuric acid, officials said.
