(KT) – The state has unveiled a new web-based platform that will help businesses locate reclaimed mine lands for large scale solar projects. The Energy and Environment Cabinet says this web platform, aimed at identifying solar projects providing 10 megawatts or more of electricity, would give Kentucky an important economic development tool to attract companies that want sustainable energy as a significant portion of their energy portfolios.

Kentucky seeks proposals for 2021 abandoned mine land grants April 22, 2021 GMT LOUISVILLE, Ky (AP) Kentucky’s Division of Abandoned Mine Lands is seeking proposals that will attract new industry and jobs for the 2021 Abandoned Mine Land Pilot Program. A total of $10 million is available to fund economic and community development projects in the state’s Appalachian counties. The program has supported 54 projects in Kentucky since 2016. Successful proposals have funded community water systems, job training programs, tourism sites and new industrial parks. Eligible grant recipients are limited to nonprofits and state, county and local governments. After reviewing proposals, Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Rebecca Goodman will recommend selected projects for final approval.

(AP) Kentucky grants totaling about $587,000 have been awarded to clean up 72 illegal dumps in 18 counties, officials said. The counties have to agree to provide a 25% match, which may be waived for any illegal open dump where cleanup would cost more than $50,000, a news release from the state said. Gov. Andy Beshear and Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Rebecca Goodman announced the grants Tuesday. The grants are from the Kentucky Pride Fund, which is funded by a $1.75 environmental remediation fee for each ton of garbage dumped at Kentucky municipal solid waste landfills, the release said.
