A creek in Melbourne s north has been likened to a snowfield or a giant bubble bath after being blanketed in thick white foam. The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) released the astonishing image of Merri Creek on Twitter today, confirming officers would investigate the incident. FRV crews to remain at Campbellfield chemical incident scene

Firefighters will remain at a Campbellfield factory for several more hours, following a hazmat incident. About 55 Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were called to the Nathan Drive factory about 10.30am, following reports of white fog coming from the factory. FRV crews found a chemical reaction had occurred inside the factory, and evacuated people from the nearby area. Firefighters escalated the response, with scientific officers, aerial support units and hazmat crews called to the scene. The incident was brought under control in under two hours. Firefighters are working with Environment Protection Authority Victoria, Worksafe, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria at the scene to ensure it is safe.

EPA points out that a burning cigarette butt is not just litter, it creates a fire hazard. The Ringwood Magistrates’ Court fined the man $500 and ordered him to pay another $500 to cover EPA’s legal costs. Accused man Bryce Davey failed to appear in court, on a charge of depositing litter, contrary to Section 45E(1)(a) of the Environment Protection Act 1970. The court heard that the offence took place on Wednesday, 15 January 2020, at approximately 4:15 pm on Eastlink, at Scoresby. EPA charged the man after a member of the public reported the littering, using the EPA Report Litter app on a smart phone.
